This bag is perfect for the amateur photographer who wants to carry one medium sized lens and one or two small lenses. It's just the right height to fit my Canon XSi mounted with EF 70-300mm (lens hood reversed), plus it can fit a 18-55mm, Speedlight, & all accessories (batteries, charger, etc). The bag is pretty comfy to carry for long periods (afternoon at the zoo) and the all weather wrap puts any worries about bad weather at ease.

After buying a Canon 50D, I wasn't sure which bag to buy, as nobody seems to give a great indication of what really fits. Turns out that the Nova 170 is a really good size for a hobbyist like myself.
Attached tot he 50D is the Canon 55-250 IS lens Under that I have a Peli Silica Gel. Also in the bag is a canon 18-55 IS lens. There is room for another lens on the other side of the camera (probably a 50mm 1.8 would fit nice). There is some room for more items, maybe a flash unit would fit in with everything.
In the zipper pocket in the underside of the cover is a Cable release for the shutter. The pocket on the outside of the cover holds some lens cleaning pens and cloth. There is a pocket on the back that would be good for a small notepad and pen.
The front pocket is holding a USB cable (I purchased a 1.5ft cable instead of the standard 6ft cable), battery charger, and a small tripod flashlight. There is barely room for an extra battery here.
There are two side pockets with bungie instead of zipper. One I often use for a Gorilla pod. The other is currently unused.
Shoulder strap has been comfortable for me. The top handle is incredibly comfortable. I was concerned that it's taller than it is wide, so it may not be stable. But with this setup (which seems slightly top heavy), I need to really push on it to get it to topple over.
I do with the all weather cover was removable (it's sewn to the bag). I don't really see myself using it, as it really just protects the bag, with minimal benefit to the equipment. If it was removable, the case would be slightly less heavy and bulky.
Overall, It's a great bag for anyone who doesn't have too much equipment. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could.

I am very satisfied with the Nova 170. It's perfect for my D40 with 18-200 mm lens attached, sb-400 flash, and 50 mm f1.4 lens. I can also include a camcorder if needed. I may upgrade to a sb-600 flash in the future which will fit nicely into the bag. There is a smaller compartment in front for extras such as filters, spare batteries, charger, etc.
The waterproof cover worked as advertised. I walked around San Francisco one rainy day, and all my gear stayed completely dry. The strap is comfortable for extended periods of time, and the design allows me to access my gear quickly. I found the Nova 180 too bulky - the 170 is more compact unless you have a lot of extra gear. Excellent camera bag overall.
